IceMan® Classic3 vs. Competitors:

As previously mentioned, the IceMan® Classic3 is manufactured with dual pump recirculation technology. This technology allows constant water recirculation to ensure that the patient receives continuous cold therapy and consistent cold water distribution throughout the cold pad. Other cryotherapy versions restrict or pinch water flow to the cold pad, causing variable flow rates and inconsistent cold pad temperatures.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does cold therapy work?

Cold Therapy, otherwise known as cryotherapy, is a proven method applied in medical and surgical techniques to reduce pain, inflammation, and expedite recovery. Cryo- derives from the Greek word "krous," meaning "icy," "cold," or "frost" and "therapy" means "cure" or "treatment."

How often do I have to put ice in my unit?

The frequency in which you need to add ice to your cold therapy unit varies with each specific unit. Generally, cold therapy units keep ice cold for 4-10 hours, depending. However, instead of ice we recommend using frozen water bottles and placing them in the cooler with water to reduce the amount of ice needed. Just be sure to remove the labels from your water bottles before trying this method.

Can I use cold therapy anywhere?

While most cold therapy Units require a grounded power supply (i.e. wall plug) to pump the cold water into the pads or wraps, the Breg Kodiak unit has an optional battery pack for use anywhere. Additionally, the Aircast Cryo Cuff Gravity cooler does not require power and instead uses the force of gravity to allow the water to flow through to the pad.

Do the units have automatic timers?

No, most cold therapy units do not have built in timers. However, we have found that plugging the unit into a outlet timer as you might for your decorative lights during the holidays works well at creating a self timer.

Does insurance cover cold therapy units?

This will depend on your insurance provider. While we do not bill or accept insurance, we recommend checking with your specific provider to see if they will reimburse you post purchase. Additionally, we are able to accept HSA and FSA cards for purchases online and over the phone.

Can I wear my unit to bed/sleep?

We do not recommend using your cold therapy unit and pads while sleeping.
